Conservation Research
In the past we have assisted the following organizations in local field studies:
1. The Nature Conservancy ( TNC ):
We participated in an ecological rapid assessment of the West Coast of Andros. As a result of this assessment, valuable information was compiled to show the importance of the West Side, to Andros and The Bahamas. These efforts contributed to the boundary expansion of the Westside National Park. The current boundaries protects several endangered species and their critical habitats.
2. Bonefish & Tarpon Unlimited ( BTU ):
Captain Shawn worked along with scientists who investigated the large-scale movement patterns of bonefish around Andros using acoustic telemetry. This work is valuable as it will help in ensuring a sustainable fishery through the protection of essential spawning migration corridors and sites. It is hoped that this information will be used by decision-makers to give legal protection to critical habitats for the bonefish.
We are always open to working with scientists, universities and organizations to conduct conservation and research efforts in our communities.
